Now that we have the opportunity to approach this project again, I want to utilize all the latest technology available while potentially saving the school thousands of dollars in the process. Windows-based applications would be best but Linux-based is absolutely a viable option.

The alternative would have to be completely editable once set up. I would like it to be fully customizable but that is not a main factor. Additionally, it would have to be pretty much dummy proof. Essentially, I am going to set up the process and confirm it is working perfectly and then train individuals to use it properly. If the computers are set up with Windows, I would like to be able to utilize Access Control mode under Windows 8.1 so the application would have to be capable with that. Most, if not all, of the computers will utilize a secured wireless connection.

I would like the ability to set up the console (or whatever term the application uses) on a remote server. This will allow me (or whoever) the convenience of one central place to manage all seven installations. Most importantly, no matter what OS the application runs off of, it has to be secure. As part of the testing phase, I have recruited a couple of IS colleagues to try and hack the system once it's set up. We do not need Fort Knox but the safety and the privacy of the school is paramount. I know this is a lot of information but I am sure I may have missed something.
